From the CEO’s Desk: A Passion for History and innovation

It is not every day that Coinllectibles gets to be involved in a record breaking gold coin sale and the first Numismatic DOT by an international auction house. We are all about bridging the physical and the digital spaces and love working with partners. We were thrilled to be invited by renowned collectibles auction house Spink & Son to partner around the auction of just the 8th known example of England’s first gold coinage. The sale of the Henry 111 coin garnered international media attention and Coinllectibles produced a DOT on a virtual moving graphic commemorating the moment that the soil was removed after unearthing the rare coin dating back to the mid 1200s. To date Coinllectibles has led with our signature Fusion DOT, with one DOT tied to one physical collectible piece reflecting certificate of ownership. As the DOT is on the video and not the physical coin, our team created the hybrid DOT - one h-DOT that holds the digital ownership title to the private and commercial licenses in respect to the video. This is uploaded on to the blockchain for full transparency and authenticity.

This was a really fun collaboration with Spink with proceeds from the h-DOT going to Charity. The h-DOT was available to bid for on both the Spink site as well as Coinllectibles MetaMall. The initial low start price of £5 encouraged a lot of interest from all circles but the online bidding quickly moved that up. Going into the final part of the auction Coinllectibles had the highest bid before being outbid at the close of the physical auction. I was fortunate to be present for the amazing atmosphere at the Spink & Son London auction room when the hammer went down on both the gold coin and the h-DOT, with the coin and h-DOT realising £648,000 and £18,000 respectively.

Many of our team across different geographies worked hard to make this a success. It was great to continue to innovate with the DOT, work with renowned partner Spink and use our platform and tool set to support a great outcome.  This was a wonderful project to be involved with around such a rare and interesting coin. We are grateful to the Spink team to support on their first collectible DOT coin and as Spink’s Chairman noted “after fierce bidding, the DOT went to a good home, or should I say now a “good wallet.”

Some noted last week a shared passion for the history in collectibles around the gold coin, alongside innovation. This is an important week for many in Asia and around the world with the Lunar New Year holiday and we are very pleased to be launching an educational initiative on Chinese ceramics.  Mr Ben Chan, the head of the Hong Kong International Auction house has produced a nice piece entitled “An Introduction to the Art of Ceramic Painting in China” which you can find on at Coinllectibles.art. We have done a number of launches in the ceramic asset class and it is wonderful to bring more understanding to our communities through this piece, and we hope more educational commentary in this special area of collectibles. Wishing all a Happy Lunar New Year.
